Kate Middleton has announced that she is in remission after revealing her cancer diagnosis just under a year ago.

Last March, the Princess of Wales announced that she had been undergoing treatment for cancer after planned abdominal surgery earlier in the year. The announcement had followed weeks of public speculation about the Princess and her whereabouts.

While Kate has never publicly disclosed the type of cancer she has, the Princess shared numerous health updates in the following months – including a confirmation that she had completed a course of preventative chemotherapy the following September.

In a new update on her health shared on social media, The Prince and Princess of Wales’ official X account shared a photograph of Kate visiting The Royal Marsden cancer hospital, where she is now a patron of, alongside the confirmation that she was now in remission.

Her statement began: “I wanted to take the opportunity to say thank you to The Royal Marsden for looking after me so well during the past year.

“My heartfelt thanks goes to all those who have quietly walked alongside William and me as we have navigated everything.

“We couldn’t have asked for more. The care and advice we have received throughout my time as a patient has been exceptional.”

She continued: “In my new role as Joint Patron of The Royal Marsden, my hope is, that by supporting groundbreaking research and clinical excellence, as well as promoting patient and family wellbeing, we might save many more lives, and transform the experience of all those impacted by cancer.

“It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focussed on recovery. As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead. There is much to look forward to. Thank you to everyone for your continued support. C.”

Earlier today it was announced the Princess had made a visit to the hospital in Chelsea, west London where she had undergone her chemotherapy and could be seen speaking to patients undergoing similar treatments.

Reflecting on her treatment journey she said (via The Guardian): “It’s really tough. It’s such a shock. Everyone said to me please keep a positive mindset, it makes such a difference.

“It’s the uncertainty of that initial diagnosis. It’s such a wealth of information. Understanding the diagnosis, it’s a massive amount of information to take on as a patient. Having that continuity, in the clinical setting and outside in the home setting, is so important.”

She added (via the BBC): “You think the treatment has finished and you can crack on and get back to normal, but that’s still a real challenge.

“The words totally disappear. And understanding that as a patient – yes, there are side effects around treatment, but actually there are more long-term side effects.”

Taking to social media this evening (14 June), Middleton opened up about the current state of her health.

In a statement, the 42-year-old said: “I have been blown away by all the kind messages of support and encouragement over the last couple of months.

“It really has made the world of difference to William and me and has helped us both through some of the harder times.

“I am making good progress, but as anyone going through chemotherapy will know, there are good days and bad days.

“On those bad days you feel weak, tired and you have to give in to your body resting.

“But on the good days, when you feel stronger, you want to make the most of feeling well.

“My treatment is ongoing and will be for a few more months.

“On the days I feel well enough, it is a joy to engage with school life, spend personal time on the things that give me energy and positivity, as well as starting to do a little work from home.

“I’m looking forward to attending The King’s Birthday Parade this weekend with my family and hope to join a few public engagements over the summer, but equally knowing I am not out of the woods yet.

“I am learning how to be patient, especially with uncertainty.

“Taking each day as it comes, listening to my body, and allowing myself to take this much needed time to heal.

“Thank you so much for your continued understanding, and to all of you who have so bravely shared your stories with me.”

Earlier this month, it appeared that her husband, Prince William, shared some positive news during a D-Day memorial event in Portsmouth on 5 June.

As shown in BBC’s coverage of the event, the 41-year-old is seen chatting to a veteran, who asked him if Kate was ‘getting better’.

“Yes, she’d have loved to be here,” the Prince appeared to have responded.

This comes after the father-of-three was asked about his wife’s health during a hospital visit to the Isles of Scilly on 10 May.

“May I ask how Princess Kate is doing?” hospital administrator Tracy Smith asked him.

“She’s doing well, thank you,” he replied.

Kate Middleton has announced she has finished chemotherapy for cancer in an emotional update this afternoon (9 September).

The Princess of Wales appeared in a very personal video with her family, confirming she’ll be retuning to public duties following this positive development.

“As the summer comes to an end, I cannot tell you what a relief it is to have finally completed my chemotherapy treatment,” a message from her on the family’s official X account reads.

Discussing her cancer journey, Kate’s message is spoken over images showing her and her husband with their three kids, enjoying the outdoors, walking through woods and the royal couple shown cuddling as they hold hands.

The royal describes the past nine months since her diagnosis as ‘incredibly tough for us as a family’ and how the ‘cancer journey is complex, scary and unpredictable for everyone’, with the experience giving her a ‘new perspective on everything’.

In the video, Kate says: “Doing what I can to stay cancer-free is now my focus. Although I have finished chemotherapy, my path to healing and full recovery is long and I must continue to take each day as it comes.

“I am however looking forward to being back at work and undertaking a few more public engagements in the coming months when I can.

“Despite all that has gone before, I enter this new phase of recovery with a renewed sense of hope and appreciation of life.”

The Princess is going to carry on working from home, but she hopes to return to a light programme of public duties for the rest of this year.

With a focus on making a full recovery, she’s aiming to make a handful of engagements in the coming months.

Kate is also working towards appearing with the rest of the Royal Family at the annual Remembrance Sunday service staged at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on 10 November.

The Princess’ Christmas Carol concert at Westminster Abbey has become a firm fixture in the royal calendar in recent years and she has begun working with her team on the project.

Her message also said: “William and I are so grateful for the support we have received and have drawn great strength from all those who are helping us at this time. Everyone’s kindness, empathy and compassion has been truly humbling.

“To all those who are continuing their own cancer journey – I remain with you, side by side, hand in hand. Out of darkness, can come light, so let that light shine bright.”

Prince William has issued an update on Kate Middleton’s health following her shock cancer diagnosis.

In March this year, the Princess of Wales revealed she has been undergoing cancer treatment, which came after much speculation online about her whereabouts.

Breaking her silence, she thanked the public for their support and said it had been ‘an incredibly tough couple of months’ for her entire family.

“In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful,” Kate said.

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.”

The royal described it as a ‘huge shock’ as she added that she was ‘getting stronger every day’.

Kate concluded the statement with: “At this time, I am also thinking of all those whose lives have been affected by cancer.

“For everyone facing this disease, in whatever form, please do not lose faith or hope. You are not alone.”

And earlier this week, the Prince of Wales gave a positive update about his wife’s health.

William was chatting with members of the public at James’ Place Newcastle on Tuesday (30 April) when well-wishers asked how they were.

In a video shared on social media, one of the women asked the Prince: “Do you mind if I ask how your wife and children are?”

“We’re all doing well, thank you,” the dad-of-three responded. And the royal fan continued: “And obviously Catherine?”

“We’re all doing well,” he said.

During a visit to a high school last week, Prince William was given gifts to take home for his wife.

Kerry Whitehouse, the St. Michael’s Church of England High School’s senior mental health lead, told PEOPLE the goodies included Lego sunflowers because ‘building things is therapeutic and sunflowers represent happiness positivity and strength’.

There were also sunflower seeds ‘to sow seeds of positivity’.

Kate also said in her statement in March regarding her diagnosis: “As you can imagine, this has taken time. It has taken me time to recover from major surgery in order to start my treatment.

“But, most importantly, it has taken us time to explain everything to George, Charlotte and Louis in a way that is appropriate for them, and to reassure them that I am going to be ok.

“As I have said to them; I am well and getting stronger every day by focusing on the things that will help me heal; in my mind, body and spirits.”

Doctor explains what 'preventative chemotherapy' is as Kate Middleton announces she's undergoing cancer treatment

Doctor explains what ‘preventative chemotherapy’ is as Kate Middleton announces she’s undergoing cancer treatment

The medical expert has explained what the method is following the Princess of Wales’ announcement

A doctor has explained exactly what ‘preventative chemotherapy’ is, following Kate Middleton’s announcement.

The Princess of Wales posted a health update video on X this evening through Kensington Royal’s official account.

The video comes following weeks of speculation and conspiracies surrounding her health, that were amplified after the photo she posted on Mother’s Day was admittedly edited.

In tonight’s two minute clip, the Princess explained: “In January, I underwent major abdominal surgery in London and at the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous. The surgery was successful.

“However, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should undergo a course of preventative chemotherapy and I am now in the early stages of that treatment.

“This of course came as a huge shock, and William and I have been doing everything we can to process and manage this privately for the sake of our young family.”

Preventative chemotherapy has been explained.

She also credited her husband and children for helping her through the past few months, asked for privacy until she is ready to assume her royal duties again.

Many have been left wondering what ‘preventative chemotherapy’ actually is though, with the Princess of Wales revealing that she will be undergoing it.

Consultant oncologist Professor Pat Price went on LBC to explain what it actually is, saying: “What that is, is that when a cancer has been surgically removed and taken away, we sometimes give chemotherapy afterwards just in case, there’s any cells that were missed or escaped.

“And that can take the form of either tablets or injections, usually for a limited amount of time, and then stopped.” She explained.

The medical expert labelled it as ‘just in case’ chemotherapy.

Host Tom Swarbrick then asked: “How long, again, in theory, would a course of preventative chemotherapy last?”

Professor Price answered: “Well, some tablets are given, say, 14 days out of the month.

“Some injections are given once every three weeks, so we’re not to know what it is but she’ll be probably undergoing treatment for several months now, intermittently, as an outpatient,

“And this is the time, she needs some time and space to look after her health as well,” the doctor concluded.

The method can involve taking tablets or injections.

Several members of the public have come out in support for the Princess following the news, with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak also issuing a statement to show his support for William and Kate.

The news comes after a reported investigation was launched at The London Clinic after staff allegedly tried to access the Princess of Wales’s private medical records amid speculation of her whereabouts since she was admitted to the hospital for abdominal surgery on 16 January.
