It’s hard to believe that the world’s richest chef is over four times wealthier than Gordon Ramsay.
And he’s twice as rich as Ramsay and Jamie Oliver combined, according to the Daily Mail.
The outlet reports that the Hell’s Kitchen chef, 58, has a net worth of £180 million, meanwhile Oliver, 49, is reportedly worth £164 million.
Don’t think any of them will worry about keeping the heating on this winter, that’s for sure.
So, who’s the richest chef in the world?
Well, it’s Japanese-American chef Alan Wong who is considered to be the wealthiest cook in the world.
His net worth reportedly comes in at an eye-watering £880 million.
He is famed for his unique take on Hawaiian cuisine and once had the honour of cooking for former US president Barack Obama in 2009.
“A number of the staff, both in the kitchen and the front of house, had never served the president before,” he said at the time.

“I thought it was cool they’d now have a story to tell their grandkids.”
Incase you’re wondering, this is what he served up:
- A trio of appetizers: Wong’s seafood cake, a tomato with li hing mui dressing and Wong’s famous ‘soup and sandwich,’ a two-colour Big Island tomato soup and foie gras grilled cheese sandwich.
- Lobster lasagna
- Ginger-crusted onaga
- The President’s favorite entree, soy-braised shortribs.
- And his favourite dessert, ‘The Coconut,’ coconut ice cream covered with dark chocolate, in a shape that looks exactly like half a coconut, served with a colorful array of tropical fruits.
Alan Wong’s impressive career
This comes after Wong was awarded Chef of the Year by Santé Magazine in 2007.
But before in 2001, one of his restaurants was ranked as number six in a listing of America’s Best Fifty Restaurants.
And in 1996, he was awarded the James Beard Award for Best Chef: Pacific Northwest.

Two years prior, the up-and-coming chef was recognised by Robert Mondavi Winery as one of 13 Rising Star Chefs in America.
Wong is also known as one of the co-founders of Hawaii Regional Cuisine, a movement that encourages the use of locally sourced ingredients to create a distinctive fusion of diverse culinary traditions.
Throughout his career, he has kept received numerous accolades, including the prestigious James Beard Award for Best Chef: Pacific Northwest.
However, in recent years, various sources have wrongly reported that Wong’s net worth to be approximately $1.1 billion (£903 million),
But this is probably a mistaken comparison with Allan Wong, the billionaire co-founder of VTech Holdings.

As we all well know, Gordon Ramsay is a stickler for the rules both professionally and personally.
We’ve watched him kindly tell contestants on Hell’s Kitchen to ‘f*** off’ for disobeying them and heard all about the strict standards his six kids have to live up to, so we are all aware we need to be on our best behaviour around this bloke.
But even those who enforce the regulations break the rules sometimes… as although he’s a hilarious potty-mouthed chef, he’s human too.

Carol Scott from the fifth season of his hit series Hell’s Kitchen might disagree with that, though.
The sous chef, from Knoxville, Tennessee, holds the unfortunate title of being one of the few people who have forced Ramsay to go against his own decree after she made a ‘dangerous’ mistake while feeling the heat in the kitchen.
She was one of the contestants on the high-stakes show in November 2007 and is sadly remembered for all the wrong reasons, rather than her cooking skills.
Fans of the show will remember how Scott got the boot from Hell’s Kitchen in the ninth episode, despite being on the winning team and it going against Ramsay’s own rulebook.
Much to the surprise of her fellow contestants, the celebrity restaurateur, 57, decided to eliminate her from the competition even though she should have been safe due to the red team’s success.
The reactions in the room were pretty hilarious to look back on – as the competitors awkwardly watched on as Ramsay brutally told her she was being sent home as he felt as though she had ‘given up’.
“Jacket off – and you’re leaving Hell’s Kitchen,” he said.
“You didn’t even make a comeback. After the dauphinoise potatoes were screwed, you gave up.”
Yes, you read that right – it was ‘crunchy’ gratin dauphinoise which caused Ramsay to crack and rip up the Hell’s Kitchen rulebook. But to be fair, she did make a mess of them.

At the dinner service, she had brought the dish she was in charge of up to the pass, only for Ramsay to smash them off the side and into the bin as he yelled: “Why are the potatoes crunchy?!”
Scott fessed up to her mistake but insisted she had no idea ‘why they didn’t cook correctly’, so she started to make a new batch of the gratin dauphinoise before gingerly telling Ramsay it would take about ten minutes.
A tip for anyone working under him – never say that.
He laid into her for delaying customers’ meals, before branding her ‘useless’ when she revealed she had cooked the spuds in boiling cream for an hour during prep.
Scott then sealed her fate when she poured even more cream on her second batch – which Ramsay caught wind of.

While pouring her sloppy spuds in the bin, he yelled: “My God. Oh Jesus! Are you mad? I wouldn’t even serve that to a pig farm madam.
“Forget it. You don’t care do you, because if you did care you wouldn’t serve me that crap!”
Somehow though, Scott’s team still won the dinner service thanks to their 54 percent rating over the blue team’s 39 percent – but it still wasn’t enough to save her after the gratin dauphinoise scandal.
And that, people, is how you get Ramsay to be a rule-breaker. Make an absolute cock up of some fancy potatoes.
To be fair, eating undercooked ones can be quite dangerous – as according to Medicine.Net, as they contain proteins and compounds such as lectins, solanine and starch, they can leave you experiencing nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
And we can’t be having that in Gordon Ramsay’s restaurant, can we?

Gordon Ramsay explained the ‘red flag’ you need to be aware of when choosing what meal to tuck into at a restaurant.
Going out for food can be an expensive business so you absolutely don’t want to experience that disappointment when you make the wrong decision and end up having forked out a fortune on something rubbish.
But luckily, the chef and restaurant extraordinaire has a pretty good idea of how these things work – even if we weren’t that impressed by some of his own offerings.
Now, we’ve all walked past our fair share of establishments that boast to have the ‘best in the country’ of something, or perhaps ‘world’s best’ at some brave spots.

And sure, while that might be true at the odd spot, plenty of us are left suspicious by these claims, just as Ramsay suggests we should be.
The Hell’s Kitchen star told Town and Country that while he’ll often avoid the ‘soup of the day’ and regularly asks the servers what their favourite items are, there are clear red flags to look for.
Ramsay says that if you do fancy the soup, it’s worth asking what soup they were serving up the day before as it could be more of a ‘soup of the month’ type of situation.
He warned against establishments that ‘boast’ about their dishes, claiming them to be the ‘world’s best’, ‘famous’ or the ‘best in the country’.
Of course though, it’s worth a check – the place might actually have won the award for it. But as Ramsay suggests, the likelihood is the restaurant owners have decided on that title themselves.
“Who said that? Who named that?” he said.

Chatting to the Daily Mail, the 58-year-old also says a lengthy list of specials on the menu is a red flag for a spot.
“Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening. When they list 10 specials that’s not special,” he explained.
Basically, if the specials board is so big, it’s basically just another menu, nothing special about it.
The TV chef also has some advice if you’re planning on going out for a little cutesy romantic dinner any time soon.
If you’re heading out with you’re significant other, Ramsay says to book a table for three for the two of you, rather than just the seats you need.
That way, he says you’ll reduce your chances of ‘getting stuck in the corner like a doorstop’.

Gordon Ramsay recently shared that he’s lucky to be alive following a bike accident this week.
Showing off the extent of his injuries, the famous chef explained that he’d been riding his bike in the US when the accident occurred.
Fortunately he didn’t suffer any broken bones, but Ramsay showed the serious bruises which had occurred and gave thanks to staff at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital for treating his injuries.
Above all he urged all bikers to ‘WEAR A HELMET’, saying that doing so saved his life and the accident ‘really shook’ him.
A helmet might not seem much but it can be the difference between suffering some very nasty bruises and not getting back up from an accident.

Thankfully we’ve still got Ramsay around, and he can continue to drop pearls of wisdom about the fine art of running a restaurant.
One of his major tips was the things to look out for which might let you know that the food you’re getting might not be up to snuff.
The restaurateur previously spoke about his three golden rules for eating in a restaurant, telling diners they ought to be wary of any place which threw around ‘suspicious boasts’ about the quality of their food.
Buzzwords like ‘famous’ or ‘best in the country’ without any further evidence to back them up set the chef’s alarm bells ringing as it always made him wonder: “Who said that? Who named that?”
However, Ramsay’s top tip was all about the one thing you shouldn’t pick off the menu when the waiter comes up and asks you to place your order.
It turns out that the dish in question is pretty much anything off the specials board, particularly if it looks like there’s a lot of options on there.
He said: “Specials are there to disappear throughout the evening. When they list 10 specials that’s not special.”
Advice worth listening to, if the specials board is too big then it’s basically just another menu.

The chef also had a special trick to getting the best bottles of wine for a bargain price, saying you should ask for the ‘bin end’ list which is comprised of bottles with scratched labels or vintages which haven’t sold well.
He suggested that you ask for a bottle of whatever is recommended for no more than $30 (£24), as apparently that can be a secret way of getting an under appreciated tipple to your table without costing too much.

Gordon Ramsay has stepped into action after squatters recently took over his £13million pub.
The TV chef has been having an absolute nightmare after a group of at least six people shacked up inside one of his London properties.
Currently up for sale (with a whopper guide price of £13million), the Grade II-listed York & Albany hotel and gastropub has been taken over by squatters.
It was reported by the Sun last week that the group boarded up the windows of Ramsay’s pub and taped up a ‘legal warning’ on the door.
Naming themselves ‘The Occupiers’, they expressed their right to occupy the venue by Regent’s Park as Ramsay made a seemingly useless call to the police.
As the group can exercise their squatters rights (the place isn’t a residential property), the Metropolitan Police issued a statement that it is ‘a civil matter and so police did not attend’.
(PA)
But the Hell’s Kitchen star has now apparently ‘served papers’ to the squatters, forcing them to ‘cancel’ their cafe they were running from the pub.
It is reported The Camden Art Café used Ramsay’s kitchen appliances to barricade themselves in and glued the locks shut.
On Instagram, they say they are an ‘autonomous café’ which is ‘committed to providing free food and creating a space for the community’.
However, despite a ‘busy’ day yesterday (15 April), they posted an update earlier this morning.
Writing to their Instagram story, the group said: “Apologies to everyone who was going to come along today. Papers served, café cancelled.”
A notice placed on one of the property’s doors read: “Take notice that we occupy this property and at all times there is at least one person in occupation.
“That any entry or attempt to enter into these premises without our permission is therefore a criminal offence as any one of us who is in physical possession is opposed to such entry without our permission.

“That if you attempt to enter by violence or by threatening violence we will prosecute you. You may receive a sentence of up to six months’ imprisonment and/or a fine of up to £5,000.
“That if you want to get us out you will have to issue a claim for possession in the County Court or in the High Court.”
If the group want to make the pricey place theirs, they’ll have to occupy it continuously for 10 years, act as owners the whole time and have not been given permission to live there.
In 2007, film director Gary Love bought the freehold of the former inn. He then leased it to Ramsay on a 25-year term with an annual rent at £640,000.
In 2015, the chef unsuccessfully attempted to free himself from the lease in a legal battle at the High Court. It then went on sale at the end of 2023.
LADbible contacted Ramsay’s team who refused to comment.
